Nicole’s New Room

It’s been hard to find time to write much or share much the last few weeks, but tonight I thought I’d share what I’ve been working on for the last few days.  We decided that we needed to move Nicole into her own room.  I had to deconstruct our guest room, which was admittedly really bare.  I forgot to take official before pictures, but here are some pictures I took after I got rid of the bed and moved most of the stuff out of the room.

BEFORE:OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAs you can see, I had already started taping for paint when I remembered to take a pic.  AFTER:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERABEFORE:OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAFTER:OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERABEFORE:OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAFTER:OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe’re not quite done.  Zach is going to build a workstation along that back wall.  He plans to buy a board and cut it to run the whole length of the wall.  The grey thing is a magnetic board to hang above the workstation.

The next pictures are close ups of some of the details.  I painted the door black and the letters purple.  I hung up the schedule and made the picture schedule cards for her.  This is tomorrow’s schedule.  She sometimes argues with us about which day it is, so hopefully this will help solve the argument.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe decided to try some unique things with her closet.  She complains that jeans are “not beautiful enough” so her wardrobe consists mostly of skirts and dresses.  I hung up her Sunday dresses and installed hooks for her school dresses.  The hanging white bins have socks (bottom) and underwear (top) in them.  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI got this fun storage thing for the rest of her clothes.  Their are picture labels to help her know where all the clothing items go.  The top one is blank because it has shorts and pants in it and I didn’t make the label for them yet.  The weird green thing you can partially see in this pic has hats in it.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANicole loves her new room.  She has been exploring and enjoying every part of it.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

These bins are mostly empty right now.  I’m not sure what I want to put in them.  After I decide, I will put picture labels on the front so she’ll know where everything goes.  The problem is that most of the things she likes to play with, she makes a big mess with so I have restricted access to them.  I may introduce them gradually and require her to pick them up after playing with them in order to keep them in her room.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe next project will have to be Charlotte and Ila’s room because Charlotte is very jealous of Nicole’s new room.  Here’s a picture of Ila on her first night sleeping in Nicole’s old bed:OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA(You can probably already tell, but each of my girls has a special color of their own.  Nicole’s color is purple and Ila’s is orange).
